During the Opening Ceremony of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC) in Shanghai, China’s President Xi Jinping solemnly promised to open a dialogue between China and the world in pursuit of creating a mutual understanding of the Chinese culture. His promise was well received by his audience and was supported all around. Utilizing films and TV programs has become an effective way to create bonds and friendships between the U.S. and China. China has continuously used these platforms to help others better understand Chinese civilization and to enhance the cultural exchange between the U.S. and China. Utilizing films and television programs has created a social responsibility and cultural mission to share the Chinese culture internationally. The Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival have devoted themselves to this historical task for the past 15 years. The Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival goals are to create a bridge between the U.S. and China and to continue to build more friendships and co-production opportunities between the two countries.
EDI Media Inc. is the organizer of the Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival. The Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival committee held their official press conference on June 18th at the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Silver Star Hotel. The press conference was held as one of the official events of the Shanghai International Film Festival. During the press conference, the organizing committee announced the first batch of submission to the 15th Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival. There will be more than 100 films and television projects that are scheduled to be showcased in Hollywood this November. James Su, Chairman of Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival and president of EDI Media Inc., spoke first to open the press conference declaring, “The Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival are dedicated to the promotion of the civilized dialogue through films and television projects and in doing so, introduce Chinese culture to the world for the purpose of enhancing cultural exchange and cooperation. Culture is the backbone of a nation and films and television works are the carrier of such. Ren Zhonglun, the President of Shanghai Film Association and Chairman of Shanghai Film Group, stated in his remarks, “During the past 15 years, the Chinese American Film Festival has provided film exchange and cooperation between the two countries. It has been an excellent platform. China is in the stage of developing from a big country to a strong country and the important support system to develop from a big country to a strong country is cooperation, friendly competition through which mutual developments are achieved.”Zhonglun continued, “Thanks to the Chinese American Film Festival for creating the opportunity of exchanges between the two movie powers. I sincerely wish that the Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival get better with each passing year.”
Chen Dong, Chairman of the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation and Director of Shanghai Overseas Culture Research Center made his remarks at the conference stating, “In terms of civilization between China and the United States, we have similarities and differences. During difficult times we did a lot of ice-breaking. The Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival have built a bridge of exchange of culture through films and television works. Regardless if it is a situation like the Yangtze River heading east or a small stream zigzagging, the Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival will go nonstop. I sincerely hope that more filmmakers and television workers will find a position to shine on this platform.”
Tao Yong, Vice-President, and Secretary-General of Overseas Chinese Affairs of Shanghai shared his views by stating, “As a platform, Chinese American Film Festival, Chinese American TV Festival promotes China’s voices including China’s image and Chinese stories to the world stage for fifteen years. At a time when trade frictions intensify, peoples should remain friendly to each other and do more cultural exchanges.” In expressing his strong belief he said, “The relationship of the two countries will certainly be getting better because of us filmmakers. The Chinese American Film Festival was invited by the National Radio and Television Administration to participate in ‘2019 Audiovisual China’, which will broadcast Chinese TV programs overseas. Audiovisual China will serve as an international platform to broadcast the most popular TV programs to audiences worldwide. The Chinese TV programs broadcasts will work to spread Chinese culture, tell Chinese stories and promote international friendships.

The 15th Annual Chinese American Film Festival and the Chinese American TV Festival will be hosted in Hollywood, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other major cities throughout the United States from November 3rd to November 30th, 2019. The Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival will include multiple large-scale events including multiple panel discussions and more than 200 film screenings. The opening ceremony will be held on November 3rd. On November 4th, the Organizing Committee and the Producers Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America West, the China Film Group, China Radio, Film and Television Alliance, China TV Drama Production Industry Association, Capital Radio & TV Program Producers Association will co-host the 2019 Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival Co-Production Summit and Market. The Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival Golden Angel Award Ceremony and the opening ceremony will be held on November 5th. During the events, the China Film Overseas Promotion Company will continue to work with the Chinese American Film Festival organizing committee. The China Film Overseas Promotion Company will launch the “short film” selection unit this year. On November 6th, the Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival organizing committee will continue to hold the Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival Showcase event, and continue to use these events to be the platform for building new friendships and cooperation between the Chinese and American film and television industries. The 2019 Chinese American Film Festival will host a series of professional academic forums and one-month of screenings at major film companies and in dozens of universities and museums across the United States.
