Wendy, a Chinese mother, comes to Houston to visit her daughter, Elaine. After learning her husband wants a divorce, Wendy has to start working. Due to her poor English, Wendy ends up working in a massage parlor. To get permanent residency in the US, Wendy rests her hopes on finding an American boyfriend. After several unsuccessful blind dates, Wendy meets a handsome man at work. However, the romance is cut short when he reveals that he is an undercover detective and she faces legal charges. The case is eventually dismissed but Wendy’s faith in the American dream is shattered.
